Firefighters Respond To Smoke Condition Inside Pizza Store

Around 10:30 pm, firefighters from the Newtown Fire Association and the Northampton Township Volunteer Fire Company responded to a reported building fire at Marco's Pizza in the Eagle Road Shopping Center in Newtown Township. Employees at a nearby Wendy's called 911 reporting smoke was coming from the building. On scene, firefighters discovered heavy smoke coming from the pizza oven, and forced entry into the building. Inside, crews removed five burning Sicilian pizzas from the oven and ventilated the building.

Vehicle Bursts Into Flames In Grocery Store Parking Lot

Firefighters from the Newtown Fire Association and police from the Newtown Township Police Department were dispatched at 1:36 pm for a reported car fire in the Acme Markets parking lot. Chief 45 arrived on scene and reported a well involved Subaru Outback with exposures to numerous other vehicles parked nearby. Rescue 45 quickly arrived on scene and went in service with one hand line to extinguish the blaze, and the crews of Engine 55 and Field 55 assisted with overhaul. It is believed that the brakes on the Subaru overheated and eventually caught fire.

Firefighters Visit Olly Shoe Store Grand Opening

Firefighters from the Newtown Fire Association, along with EMT's/Medics from the Newtown Ambulance Squad and police from the Newtown Township Police Department visited the Olly children's shoe store on South Eagle Road to celebrate their grand opening. Firefighters were on hand to give children tours of the firetrucks.

One Dead, One Injured After Three Vehicle Accident On The Newtown Bypass

At 3:00 AM on Thursday, August 21st, firefighters from the Newtown Fire Association, medics from the Newtown Ambulance Squad, and police from the Newtown Township Police Department, Middletown Township Police Department, and the Lower Makefield Police Department responded to a three vehicle accident with entrapment at the intersection of Newtown Yardley Road and the Newtown Bypass. Crews on scene discovered a tractor trailer resting in the middle of the bypass, a Volvo V70 to the left of the trailer with extensive front end damage with an injured occupant, and a Nissan Sentra lodged completely underneath the trailer with one male heavily entrapped. Rescue crews went in service with rescue tools, and were able to free the entrapped driver of the Nissan in sixteen minutes. Medics on scene were unable to revive the patient, and the man sadly succumbed to his injuries. Crews remained on scene until the Bucks County Coroner transported the victim, and tow trucks removed all the vehicles that were involved. It is believed that two separate accidents occurred - first the Volvo collided with the tractor trailer and then moments later the Nissan crashed into the disabled truck.

Hydrant & Hose Line Advancement Drill

Firefighters held a hydrant and hose line advancement drill at the Goodnoe Elementary School in Newtown Township. Junior Firefighters practiced how to properly hook up to a hydrant and relay water to an engine through a 5" supply line, while other firefighters practiced hose line advancement scenarios and refreshed their hose-packing skills.

Hazardous Materials Incident At Lockheed Martin Commercial Space Systems

Firefighters from the Newtown Fire Association, Newtown Emergency Services Department, and the Yardley-Makefield Fire Company were dispatched to Lockheed Martin Commercial Space Systems at 100 Campus Drive in Newtown Township for a Hazardous Materials Incident. A security guard told dispatchers that there was a large leak on a 50 foot tall liquid nitrogen cryogenic tank in the rear of the building. Chief 45 arrived on scene and reported that a 100' x 100' cloud of liquid nitrogen vapors was visible in the rear of the building. Ladder 45, Rescue 45, Engine 55, Engine 55-1, Utility 55, Engine 80, Medic 145, and Field 55 with Hazmat 45 responded to the incident. Crews returned after maintenance workers on scene were able to control the leak.

Firefighters Assist With Grange Fair Parking & JeffSTAT Medical Helicopter Landing Zone

Members of the Newtown Fire Association assisted with parking at the popular Grange Fair in Wrightstown once again this year. Firefighters were on hand from 9 AM to 10 PM to assist with parking, and to provide landing zone support for a JeffSTAT medical helicopter performing a public relations event at the fair.

Firefighters Respond To Illegal Burn

Firefighters from the Newtown Fire Association were dispatched to a reported brush fire near the intersection of Country Lane & Franklin Road in Middletown Township. A caller to 911 reported that there appeared to be a fire in a nearby retention basin. D-45 arrived on scene and discovered a 20' x 20' pile of wood was set on fire by individuals having an outdoor barbecue. Since there was no burn permit obtained, Field 55 extinguished the fire. Middletown Township Police and the Middletown Township Fire Marshal were also on scene.

PennSTAR Medical Helicopter Lands In Newtown

Firefighters from the Newtown Fire Association hosted members of the University of Pennsylvania's PennSTAR medical flight program at the Bucks County Community College for a training exercise. A PennSTAR employee taught firefighters about a wide array of topics, including the history of medical helicopters, when they should be utilized at an emergency, and how to safely set up and operate at an emergency landing zone. Firefighters were also familiarized with the various aircraft designs and on board fire suppression systems, and were instructed how to safely shut down the helicopters and extricate any crew members in the event of a crash. To finish the exercise, a flight crew from Philadelphia landed a helicopter on the baseball field of the community college and gave firefighters a tour of the aircraft.

Rollover With Entrapment On The Newtown Bypass

Members of the Newtown Fire Association were dispatched to an auto extrication in the area of the Newtown Middle School, near the intersection of Rt. 413 & Richboro Road. Calls to 911 reported that a single vehicle had overturned onto an embankment before becoming up righted, and one occupant was trapped inside the vehicle. Rescue crews stabilized the vehicle, popped the passenger side door, and assisted medics with the removal and packaging of the patient. Rescue 45, Engine 55, Field 55, Medic 145, and Newtown Township Police were on scene.

School Bus vs. Car Leads To Heavy Entrapment At George School

Members of the Newtown Fire Association, Newtown Emergency Services Department, and the Northampton Fire Company were dispatched to an auto extrication near the baseball fields of George School. An emergency official on scene notified Bucks County 911 that one patient was heavily entrapped in a Ford sedan. Crews from Rescue 45 and Engine 55-1 went in service with extrication tools to remove the two driver's side doors, windshield, and roof. Crews from Rescue 73 manned a 1 3/4" hose line in case a fire started in the vehicle. The victim was removed in under 15 minutes, and was transported to St. Mary's Hospital. It is believed that the driver of the Ford sedan failed to stop at a stop sign, and was T-Boned by a school bus filled with children traveling on Newtown-Langhorne Road. After being T-Boned, the vehicle continued moving until it stopped on the field at George School. The passengers of the school bus were uninjured.

Newtown's First Fourth

Members of the Newtown Fire Association set up fire apparatus and a fire prevention booth at Newtown's First Fourth celebration of the Fourth of July. Firefighters were on hand to distribute fire prevention literature, give people tours of the fire trucks, and overlook the town's fireworks display. Two firefighters competed in the second annual hot dog eating competition, but they unfortunately lost. Other emergency crews were on hand to display their equipment, including the Newtown Emergency Services Department, Bucks County Emergency Services, and the Bucks County Hazardous Materials Response Team.

Old Glory Returns In Time For The 4th Of July

After breaking apart during a windstorm, the flagpole on our antique firehouse went missing from Newtown's landscape for a few weeks. After receiving delivery of a new flagpole, firefighters utilized Ladder 45 to install the flag & flagpole just in time to celebrate the 4th of July.

Lieutenant's Essay Lands The Fire Department A Free Ice Cream Block Party!

When Lt. Joe Camp saw that Edy's Ice Cream® was having an essay contest for the chance to win an ice cream block party, he immediately thought that if he won such a prize, it would be a great way for the fire department to celebrate with our community. Joe decided to write about the upcoming arrival of our new ladder truck, and how a block party would be a great way to celebrate its arrival, especially with all the neighbors around the firehouse that we wake up when responding to fire calls.

Joe's essay won, and Edy's will supply the fire department with enough ice cream to feed over 100 people. The festivities will occur on Saturday, September 13th at Station 45. More information will be provided at a later time.

Rescue 45 & Ladder 45 Aid Northampton At An Early Morning Dwelling Fire

At 1:02 AM on Thursday, June 26th, emergency crews were dispatched to a reported dwelling fire at 67 Winter Road in Northampton Township. Police arrived on scene and reported heavy fire showing from a large two story dwelling. Police also discovered there was an occupant still inside, and asked for the fire department to expedite while they attempted to make a rescue inside the dwelling.

 According to the Bucks County Courier Times, Officer Joseph Rosowski of the Northampton Police Department ran to the second floor and, "searched through the smoke [until] he found what at first appeared to be a pile of bedding near another bedroom door, but realized it was an unconscious woman". The woman he discovered was taken to Temple University Hospital in Philadelphia, and another occupant that escaped was taken to Saint Mary's Hospital and later released.

Rescue 45 and Ladder 45 assisted the Northampton Fire Company at the fire scene with fire suppression, and salvage and overall activities.

Rescue Crews Free Trapped Worker After Stairwell Collapse

Firefighters from the Newtown Fire Association and Medics from the Newtown Ambulance Squad were dispatched to a Domestic Rescue inside a dwelling on North State Street. Crews arrived on scene and discovered that the basement stairwell collapsed underneath a worker, leaving him injured and trapped in the basement. Crews from Rescue 45, Engine 55, and Ladder 45 set up ladders to gain access and used a stokes basket to safely remove the victim.

Firefighters Stop Another Disaster From Occuring On Father's Day

Firefighters from the Newtown Fire Association and Northampton Fire Company responded to a reported house fire on Grant Street in Newtown Township. A caller to 911 reported that their house was filling up with smoke. Chief 45 arrived on scene and confirmed a working dwelling fire. Crews from Rescue 45 advanced a hose line into the dwelling and discovered fire and heavy smoke inside the garage. After the blaze was quickly brought under control, firefighters discovered that a fire had started near the power cord of a refrigerator in the garage, which extended to a vehicle parked in the garage and the wall of the garage. Quick work by firefighters prevented any further extension to the house. The cause of the fire is being investigated.

Ladder 45 & Engine 55 Assist Upper Makefield With Early Morning Father's Day Blaze

Firefighters were dispatched to Park Place in Upper Makefield Township for a reported dwelling fire. Crews arrived on scene and discovered a three story dwelling heavily consumed by flames in the attic and top floors.  Firefighters began an interior attack of the fire, but deteriorating structural conditions forced firefighters to evacuate the building and begin an exterior attack.

Firefighters from the Upper Makefield Fire Company, Newtown Fire Association, Yardley-Makefield Fire Company, New Hope Eagle Fire Company, Lingohocken Fire Company, Morrisvile Fire Company, and the Lambertville Fire Company (New Jersey) responded to the blaze.

It took over an hour to bring the fire under control, and a tanker task force was set up to supply water to the scene. One firefighter was transported to the hospital by medics from the Newtown Ambulance Squad with a knee injury. The homeowners were reportedly awoken by their smoke detectors, and made it out of the home safety. The cause of the fire is being investigated.

Engine 55-1 Helps Wrightstown Extricate Two Entrapped Drivers

Firefighters from the Lingohocken Fire Company and the Newtown Emergency Services Department were dispatched around 5:00 PM on Monday, June 2nd for an accident with entrapment near the intersection of Durham Road and Stoopville Road. Firefighters arrived on scene and discovered a Toyota Prius hybrid with one male entrapped in the driver’s seat, and an overturned Toyota Camry with one female entrapped on the floor/side of the vehicle. Both victims were removed in approximately ten minutes, and were handed over to medics from the Newtown Ambulance Squad and Central Bucks Ambulance. Newtown Township Police are investigating the cause of the accident.

Lightning Fueled Fire Rips Through Historic Home

Firefighters were dispatched to a reported dwelling fire on Gaucks Lane at the historic Dolington Manor in Lower Makefield Township around 5:10 pm on Wednesday, May 21st. Firefighters from the Newtown Emergency Services Department and the Newtown Fire Association quickly arrived on scene and reported heavy fire showing from the roof and second floor. Crews entered the building to attack the fire and search for reported victims. No people were discovered, but two dogs and a cat were safely rescued from the engulfed home. It is believed that lightning struck the house during a violent thunderstorm, igniting the roof and second floor of the dwelling. In addition to the Newtown Fire Association and Newtown Emergency Services Department, crews from the Yardley-Makefield Fire Company, Langhorne-Middletown Fire Company, Lingohocken Fire Company, Trevose Fire Company, Upper Makefield Fire Company, Penndel Fire Company, Northampton Fire Company, New Hope Fire Company, Midway Fire Company, and the Hartsville Fire Company assisted with the incident on the fireground or on cover assignments.
