Richard A. Keen, A Dedicated Fireman

Richard Keen was a dedicated volunteer firefighter for 45 years.  He began his fire service at fourteen years of age, joining the Edgely Fire Company to which his dad Walter Keen belonged. After marrying in 1964 and thereafter moving to Levittown in 1968, he became a member of the William Penn Fire Company.  He served as Assistant Chief there for many years. In 1978, he moved to Newtown and continued his commitment to firefighting with the Newtown Fire Association, where he held many offices including Safety Officer, Treasurer and Trustee.  He loved driving the fire trucks, especially Engine 45. He received the “Chief’s  Award”  in 2003.

He was married for 40 years to his wife, Carol, and had three children: R. Todd, Tracy and Shawn, who also is a Newtown firefighter.  He had seven grandchildren.  Richard was a caring man who loved his family and was dedicated to his volunteer service of firefighting. His profession was a Design Engineer, but he spent more time doing his volunteer work.
